An Island Business Since 1977

Thermoproof is the longest-running Canadian-owned and operated window and door manufacturer on the island. What started as a local operation dedicated to building high-quality wood windows laid the groundwork for the most innovative window company in the country.

History of Innovation

1977

The Foundation of Island Manufacturing

Thermoproof opens its doors and proudly manufactures its first window in Chemainus, laying the groundwork for decades of community-focused business.

1989

Transition to PVC

Always adapting to provide the best solutions for our harsh coastal climate, Thermoproof officially introduces PVC window products. This transition marks a significant leap forward in weather resistance, durability, and energy efficiency for Vancouver Island homeowners.

2000

Phasing Out Aluminum

To make way for superior, highly energy-efficient materials, Thermoproof officially discontinues its aluminum window lines. While aluminum served our customers well for years, this strategic move allowed us to focus entirely on manufacturing products better equipped to combat the damp, chilling weather and condensation challenges of the West Coast.

2003

Islander Patio Door is Born

Built on the Island, for the Island. The Islander Patio Door goes into full production. Designed specifically to maximize natural light while withstanding our unique West Coast weather, it quickly becomes a staple in homes across our communities for decades to follow.

2005

Setting the Standard with LoE Glazing

Thermoproof becomes one of the first companies to make Low-E glazing a standard feature across our product line. This crucial technology blocks harmful UV rays and excess heat in the summer while reflecting vital heat back inside during damp, freezing coastal winters.

2011

Expert In-House Installation

Great windows are only as good as their installation. To ensure our products perform exactly as engineered, Thermoproof begins offering expert, in-house installation services to both builders and homeowners, providing a seamless, end-to-end experience

2017

Courtenay Branch Opens

To better serve our growing customer base in the central and northern parts of the island, we proudly open our Courtenay branch, expanding our dedicated local service into the Comox Valley.

2020

A New Era in Cobble Hill

A New Era in Cobble Hill After more than 40 years of growth, Thermoproof opens a state-of-the-art, brand-new manufacturing factory and interactive showroom in Cobble Hill. This massive facility upgrade allows us to meet surging demand.

2022
